Le Monde reports a survey of French children aged between 8 and 12 today.

A quarter of the school children did not know chips were made from potatoes. 87% could not identify a beetroot, and 1 in 3 could not spot a leek.

40% did not know  ham came from pigs, or that steak haché came from cows.
